1. Highway 101 Loop

The Olympic Peninsula Loop, popularly known as Highway 101, stretches for approximately 300 miles. It is one of Washington’s most beautiful roads. This loop takes you through beautiful scenery and pleasant villages. Start in the Hood Canal near Olympic National Park, according to our INNSiders. From there, take Highway 101 north and take in the scenery. Set aside some time in the summer to visit Sequim’s lavender plantations. Mountain summits, seaside beaches, and woodland pathways will all be seen along the journey.

INNSider Tip: Visit the gorgeous, verdant Hoh Rainforest in Forks, WA, by taking a little detour off Highway 101.

2. Cascade Loop

To see some of the best sites in the state, take a two- or three-day tour around the 444-mile Cascade Loop. You’ll witness waterfalls, forests, orchards, vineyards, valleys, mountains, and more along the circle! Start in Seattle and travel north on I-5 to Mukilteo, then east on Highway 2 to Wenatchee. Take in the breathtaking vistas of Stevens Pass along the route. Next, visit Leavenworth, Wenatchee, Lake Chelan, and North Cascades National Park in Washington. 3. Highway 14

Highway 14 runs along the north side of the Columbia River Gorge, which is a sight to behold. Begin at Vancouver, WA, and go east on the highway to Goldendale. As you walk through the stunning basalt canyon, you’ll notice a dramatic change in environment from forest to desert. The one-way distance is around 120 miles. After Stevenson, take a left onto Highway 141 for a beautiful view of the volcanic Mount Adams, Washington’s second highest peak.

4. Whidbey Island Day Trip

To get to Mukilteo and Whidbey Island, take I-5 north from Seattle and exit onto State Route 525 north. To get to Whidbey Island, take the Mukilteo Ferry across Possession Sound. Continue north on SR 525 to SR 20 in the direction of Anacortes. Along the route, stop by Deception Pass State Park to explore. Bring binoculars to see the bald eagles flying overhead, according to our INN Siders.

The Spirit Lake Highway, also known as State Route 504, runs for 52 miles along Mount Saint Helens’ western slope. Explore the lava plains left behind by the May 18, 1980 eruption. On a clear day, this route, located about 50 miles northeast of Portland, Oregon, offers miles of breathtaking views.
