What Are The Best Motorcycle Rides in Oregon?
1. ROUTE 138 TO CRATER LAKE
- DISTANCE: 228 miles
- TIME: 5 hours

Route 138 follows the Umpqua River, passes Diamond Lake, and continues to Crater Lake National Park, making it one of Oregon’s top motorcycle routes. The Volcanic Legacy Scenic Byway circle is a magnificent loop that takes you around this incredible natural wonder with breathtaking views. The size of the lake is difficult to comprehend; you must see it for yourself. The lake is about 2,000 feet deep and is at an elevation of over 6,000 feet. It is one of the world’s cleanest, clearest, and deepest bodies of water. Be advised, though, that there may be large amounts of snow even in June.
2. THE DEVIL’S TAIL
- OR-86
- DISTANCE: 70 miles
- TIME: 1.5 hours

Hells Canyon, located on the Oregon-Idaho border, is the deepest canyon in North America, including the Grand Canyon. Between Baker City and Oxbow, Oregon, is where you’ll find this motorbike trip. It’s a difficult route with lots of turns and elevation changes. The Devil’s Tail is a nickname given to a 22-mile (35-kilometer) curvy section of the route by rally participants in 2008 as a tribute to the “Tail of the Dragon.” Ride slowly and take in the landscape of Eastern Oregon.
3. LEWISTON HIGHWAY
- OR-3
- DISTANCE: 56 miles
- TIME: 1 hour

Beautiful views along the Snake River and meandering through high mountain farmland characterise this north/south 2-lane OR motorbike route. On the northern section of this road, take in the deep river gorges. In the Grande Ronde area, there are several fantastic tight turns. The tranquil Wallowa Lake State Park is reached by riding south on this route.
4. OREGON COAST HIGHWAY
- US-101
- DISTANCE: 167 miles
- TIME: 4 hours

On a bright day, nothing beats cycling along the Pacific coast. The Oregon Coast Highway is a scenic drive with beautiful views of the ocean. This trail will take you far over the ocean while also taking you right along the beaches, with a combination of highly forested areas and evergreen forest sections. Overall, it’s a fantastic curving road with spectacular scenery.
The whole of Route 101 will be congested, but the segment between Crescent City, CA and Coos Bay, OR is our favourite. The view is as beautiful, but there is significantly less traffic.
